Attorney General's response to Lenava's petition
The Attorney General informed the Supreme Court today that the Constitution states that the term of office of the President is five years.
Deputy Solicitor General Kanishka de Silva, who appeared for the Attorney General, said this when a petition on basic human rights was called for consideration before the Supreme Court.
When the petition filed by Mr. C. D. Lenawa requesting the Supreme Court to give an interpretation regarding the date of the end of the President's term of office was called for hearing before a five-judge panel, Deputy Solicitor General De Silva, representing the Attorney General, pointed out.
